Who Are We To Judge?

The other day I was walking around the grocery store and *BOOM* a girl in a not so modest outfit, tattoos, piercings, and the 'bad home life' walks out of the cereal aisle. The judgemental thoughts hit immediately. How could she come out and about looking like that?

She is NOTTT dressing like her body is a temple.

Does she know those tattoos are perman...wait..is that a tattoo of a piece of bread?? The only bread she needs is the bread of life..amen.

I am so guilty of being judgemental towards others and honestly just plane rude.

Now sometimes I keep the thoughts to myself and other times I gossip.

Especially since coming to college, I have done it A LOT. It went down like this.

I'm walking to my first class of the day and every girl I see is in a crop top and short shorts...now naturally I was shocked. I was sooo used to the dress code in high school I didn't know what to think. But the first think I did was call my mom (Is it really gossip if you do it to your mother? probably) I told her about all the immodest outfits and then continued along with my day.

Now there is some mighty good scripture in Matthew that talks about judging. So let's whip out our bibles to Matthew 7.

7 “Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged. 2 For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use. 3 Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a beam of wood in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye. 6 Don’t give what is holy to dogs or toss your pearls before pigs, or they will trample them under their feet, turn, and tear you to pieces.

Now I don't know about you, but that convicted me.

Honestly what right do I have to judge others? The word says plain and clear, while I am watching someone else's splinter...I am sitting there with a big ole hunking beam of wood in my eye.

Everyone has sin in their lives. And the Lord did not say "Go and judge others and let them know that they are sinners". He calls us all go and love others, and show them the love of God.

Verse 5 helps depict this. Once I take care of your beam of wood, I can then go HELP others. Now it doesn't say that I can go JUDGE others...but to go help.

Quite honestly, why wouldn't I want to go help others once I can help ourselves.

We can go a little further into Matthew and look at verses 7-12.

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door[a]will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him. 12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Now not only should I not judge others, but here comes the golden rule.

Verse 12 says "Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

Now if we go out to spread kindness and help others, people are more apt to spread that kindness. Verse 5 and 12 seem to go together really well.

Just take a minute and read those two verses again.

- "Whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them."

- "First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye."

Wouldn't we all want kindness from others?

Shouldn't we all want to show that kindness to others?

I am going to end on that note.

If you want some good reading for the week, read through Matthew 7, and share some of your thoughts and/or discoveries :)

With Love,
